We are pleased to announce that Andrew Kimmel has been selected to serve a second term on the Certification Commission for the American Public Works Association (APWA). Andrew has been actively involved with APWA’s national committees and commissions for the past 8 years, bringing invaluable experience and expertise to the organization.
Andrew first became engaged with APWA through the Rocky Mountain Chapter (RMC) 13 years ago, which covers Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. His journey began when he was appointed as an Idaho Director on the RMC board. In 2016, Andrew was elected President of the Chapter, where he served for two years. Currently, he continues his work on the RMC board as the Alternate National Council of Chapters Delegate.
Throughout his time with the APWA, Andrew has focused on education, credentialing, and professional development. His role on the Certification Commission continues this vital work. The Certification Commission defines and governs APWA’s certification activities, including:
- Establishing rules and regulations for the certification system
- Providing executive oversight for certification programs
- Interpreting and enforcing the rules and regulations
- Overseeing certification councils such as the Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP), Certified Public Works Professional (CPWP), Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII), Certified Stormwater Manager (CSM), and new certification programs as they are developed
Andrew’s experience in water and wastewater engineering spans over 17 years. He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Idaho State University in 2007 and has dedicated his career to serving rural communities across the Pacific Northwest. He is passionate about working closely with public works departments, city councils, and boards to understand their needs and develop operator-friendly solutions for their water and wastewater systems. His commitment to education extends to the communities he serves, helping them recognize the importance of well-maintained infrastructure for safe drinking water and reliable wastewater treatment
Understanding the challenges of securing funding for essential infrastructure upgrades, Andrew also works hand-in-hand with funding agencies to help clients find effective and sustainable solutions. His commitment to helping communities secure the necessary resources reflects his dedication to public works advancement.
